guest blog #5 - work it!

let's all welcome a new guest blogger to m.pressed - Brittany Lee - as she fills us in on the newest and most hip workouts! it's time to get our bodies ready for swimsuit season!

I have always been a relatively active person but along with that I have always been a pretty unhealthy eater. It never really mattered that much until a few years ago. I could eat fast food 3 or 4 times a week and eat no vegetables and I would not gain a pound! Well, those days are over now! In the last few years I have noticed the pounds come on little by little. I realize now that I can’t eat fast food 3 to 4 times a week and eat no vegetables and expect to keep the same weight I had in college. So, for Lent this year I have given up fast food and pop and an effort to eat healthier. Along with trying to eat healthier I am been trying to workout more consistently. My problem is that I get bored pretty easily. Does that happen to anyone else??? To try and keep things interesting I have been trying several different workout classes. So far it is working! Here are some of the classes I that am loving right now!

Zumba-This class is great because is varies some from class to class. Depending on the instructor you can end up having a hip hop dance party, Latin booty shake class, a combination of both, and if you’re lucky you’ll get to end the class with a little hula dancing! If you go to a class and you don’t feel it, try another class with a different instructor. I am sure you will find one you will love! My experience with this class has been that it’s really fun and a great workout!

Kickboxing-This class is HARD! The most positive thing about this class is that it moves so quickly that before you know it, it’s over. It combines kickboxing and some basic aerobic moves faster than you could ever imagine. The music is upbeat and you also sweat like you wouldn’t believe! You sweat in places you didn’t know you could sweat! I always feel amazing after, but I will caution you, bring you’re A games to this class!

Pilates-I can’t do Yoga. I am not mature enough to be one with the earth while in a building surrounded by electronics, people, etc. I just think it is funny when I am supposed to 1.Be completely silent (people who know me will really get that.) 2. Connect with the dirt underneath the building (I had instructor once say those exact words.) When I first decided to try Pilates I was nervous it would be to similar to yoga but it really isn’t. It moves faster, is a little less serious, and they play better music. You strengthen your whole body and get a great stretch. But beware I have woken up many a times the next day sore!

Cardio Dance Party-Now the first time I went to this class it was pretty much a hip hop dance class. The next time I went, it was a completely different story! This time the instructor explained that in this class you will learn to do many different types of dance and that tonight was African Tribal dance! I wish I could have seen my own face when he said this! Thank God, no really, I am not kidding. Thank God my friend Meg was there with me. I am not sure I would have gotten through it without her! It ended up being a blast but in these situations I am glad I am able to laugh at myself and have a friendly face to laugh with. Needless to say I will be going back next week!

If you are looking for a great workout I would definitely say to try ones of these classes or a class that sounds fun to you. And always take a friend. It is so much more fun when you have someone to do it with you!
